Q: Can I Give SHINE Pet Food to My Puppy? How Much Should I Feed?
Answer:
First, absolutely! We have a recipe that is specially formulated for sensitive puppy tummies of all breeds and healthy growth.
With all their zoomy energy and developing bodies, puppies need more food than an adult—but not so much that they become overweight. A good rule of thumb is to feed 5% to 8% of their body weight per day, split between three meals. Then, as they reach their target weight and full size, taper down to 2% to 2.5% per day, fed in two or three meals. At this point, you can switch to any of our recipes—they’re all suitable for puppies. If your dog has digestive issues, introduce the new recipe more gradually. Every animal is different.
Note:
If your puppy is a large or giant breed, you don’t need to feed more; in fact, they shouldn’t grow too fast. These breeds mature later, at approximately 8 to 12 months of age, depending on their size. You will want to weigh them regularly to keep up with the amount of food needed. You can safely add veggies as treats for the giant breeds but avoid giving them other goodies with excess calories, and don’t add calcium to their daily diet as our puppy recipe requires just the right amount of calcium for growth.
